Attend the PEMAC-PEM awards dinner!

MainTrain 2007 is fast approaching (November 26-28 in Toronto). Early registration indicates this will be the biggest and best MainTrain yet, so don't miss out! MainTrain 2007 will offer expert presentations, technical training, networking and social events, as well as exhibits from leading vendors.

A highlight of MainTrain 2007 will be the awards banquet dinner. At the dinner, the Plant Engineering and Maintenance Association of Canada (PEMAC) will announce the winner of its Sergio Guy Memorial Award. We'll also announce the winner of the PEM 2007 Maintenance Awards.

FLIR Systems (www.goinfracam.com) is the official sponsor of the PEM 2007 Maintenance Awards. This year, the winning maintenance team will receive a new infrared InfraCam SD camera (retail value $7,765) from FLIR Systems Canada.

SKF boss makes Canadian visit

TORONTO, ON—SKF president and CEO Tom Johnstone spoke recently to business leaders and media here. He outlined SKF's environmental programs, which include the development of a new family of "green" bearings that reduce energy consumption by at least 30 percent compared to standard ISO products, as well as the SKF BeyondZero initiative.

Hazardous waste is a problem

TORONTO, ON—Despite some progress in the province, hazardous waste continues to threaten human health, the environment and Ontario's economy due to continued significant quantities of hazardous waste and gaps in regulation and enforcement, according to a new status report by the Canadian Institute for Environmental Law and Policy (CIELAP).
