Chrysler Group LLC announces investment in Etobicoke Casting Plant
Chrysler Group LLC announced August 12th that it would invest $27.2 million in its Etobicoke Casting Plant in Toronto to produce front and rear crossmembers for future Chrysler vehicles starting in the third quarter 2011. As part of the investment, 280 jobs will be retained.

Siemens to supply wind turbines to Samsung C&T and Pattern Energy for the Ontario market
On August 10th, Siemens, Samsung C&T and Pattern Energy announced an agreement for the supply of up to 600 MW of Siemens wind turbines to serve the Ontario renewables market. Siemens will build Ontario's first blade factory as part of a plan to meet Samsung and Pattern Energy's demand. The development of this agreement, under Ontario's Green Energy Act and the associated Feed-in Tariff (FIT) program, will provide Ontario consumers enough sustainable clean electricity each year to power more than 240,000 homes.

July jobs report includes manufacturing silver lining; Magna posts big gains for quarter
July's jobs report from Statistics Canada included good news for the manufacturing sector – the best it has had in some time. While the focus on most news reports has been on the loss of 139,000 full-time positions in July, the news for the manufacturing sector was more positive. In July, 29,000 jobs were created in manufacturing. This is the biggest gain the industry has seen in two years and it brings employment levels back up to July 2009 levels.

ArcelorMittal Dofasco unveils new ultra-low carbon steel technology
ArcelorMittal has unveiled a unique new ultra-low carbon production technology at its Dofasco plant in Hamilton, Ontario, which will give the world's largest steelmaker greater capability to produce more advanced grades of automotive steel — enabling closer tolerances, lowering weight and improving functional performance of finished car parts.
