Worldwide automation market set to grow
BOSTON, Mass.—The worldwide market for production machinery automation, including AC drives, PLCs, motion control products, computer numerical controls and machine safeguarding products, is expected to grow at a compounded annual growth rate of 3.4 percent over the next five years. The market was $18 billion in 2008 and is forecasted to be over $21.2 billion by 2013, according to a new ARC Advisory Group study, Production Machinery Automation Worldwide Outlook.

Manufacturing sales continue sharp descent
OTTAWA, Ont.—Manufacturing sales decreased 5.4 percent to $41.7 billion in January, falling to the lowest level in almost 10 years, according to Statistics Canada's Monthly Survey of Manufacturing for January 2009.

Funding promotes women in technology
OTTAWA, Ont.—The Honourable Helena Guergis, Minister of State (Status of Women), recently announced federal support for a project entitled Supporting Women's Leadership in the Advanced Technology Sectors. Run by the Canadian Advanced Technology Alliance, Women in Technology (CATA WIT), the project will encourage more women to consider the advanced technology field, and help those women already working in the field to improve the skills, knowledge and expertise they need for success.
