Dear Reader,

Welcome to the August edition of the Green Business e-newsletter.

"Greening" your business is an admirable goal, but it has to be handled with care. For instance, marketing your company as "sustainable" is fine, as long as you can back up that claim with hard data. This is a lesson that Shell learned in the U.K. recently when it was given a slap on the wrist for a misleading advertisement in the Financial Times. Read the whole story in this month's newsletter.

If you are a public company, or if you simply want to make sure the community in which you operate understands how your business works so that you have informed public stakeholders, you have to make sure your disclosure hits the spot. In a preview of a more extensive discussion on sustainable management in the September issue of Green Business, this month's e-newsletter includes an article on disclosure — how the Ontario Securities Commission views it, and how two attendees of the recent Green Business / PricewaterhouseCoopers Executive Roundtable on Sustainability manage it.

As always, I look forward to your comments. Please send them to me directly at rcolman@clbmedia.ca.
