What’s your energy management strategy?
The
development of an energy management strategy is a must for
municipalities and private corporations. All organizations need
champions who can lead their organizations into a new energy reality.
That was the key message that came out of this year’s Energy Matters Summit,
the theme of which was “Shifting Mindsets Towards Sustainability.”
While the presentations at the Peel Region summit suggested that much
was being accomplished at the municipal level, private corporations are
still lagging behind on creating transformative change within their
organizations.

Greening your building — a competitive imperative
At
last month’s Green Real Estate forum in Toronto, it quickly became
clear that green buildings are no longer a niche market. Greening your
building is becoming a strategic imperative — to keep tenants and/or
employees happy and in your facilities. The question now is only, at
what sort of pace will that strategic change occur? How soon will it
affect your ability to keep the businesses and employees you need to
thrive?

It’s time to “concentrate on the future”
Recent
research reveals that concern for the environment has become a top
priority for most Canadians. While many of us are willing to adopt
lifestyle changes to make a difference, the simple sustainability
solutions that can be integrated into our busy lives aren’t always
obvious. One place where consumers can minimize the environmental
impact of their daily routine is in the laundry room. Now, a website
supported by a multi-stakeholder consortium is working to make this
change happen.

“Green” taxes and tariffs

opinion on carbon taxes in Canada currently ranges from flat opposition
to strong approval. In particular, there is a growing concern that
carbon taxes, together with cap-and-trade systems, could lead to a
further loss of North American jobs to developing countries, where
labour and energy costs are much cheaper.
