April 2008
- MEET 2008 is Here!
MEET (Mechanical Electrical Electronic Technology) continues to be an important venue for dialogue, discussion and discovery. Qualified industry professionals have come to depend on this show to deliver the tools they need to get ahead and stay ahead in today’s competitive marketplace. Well over 300 exhibitors will be there, May 7-8 in Moncton, N.B.,

to pick up your Official Show Guide, which contains all the information
you need, including: floor Again, be sure to stop by Booth 154 and say Hello, as Electrical Business—in addition to being the official electrical book of the show—is also an exhibitor. CLICK HERE to visit MEET online, then we’ll see you in Moncton.
The time has come for Nedco’s Electrifest VIII! The theme of “Las Vegas” couldn’t be more appropriate to this event on May 12, as door prizes will be drawn every 15 minutes, concluding with a grand prize draw for a trip for four to Las Vegas (or $4000 cash)! The last Electrifest succeeded in attracting over 3000 people to Nedco’s Keaton HQ and distribution centre, and displayed an array of products from over 100 manufacturers, who showed off a full compliment of products of interest to a range of customers from the electrical, automation, datacom and industrial marketplaces.
WAGO’S FREE INDUSTRIAL CONTROL SEMINARS IN SESSION WAGO
Corp. is offering five, three-day industrial control seminars focusing
on the latest in control technology at its Germantown, Wis.,
headquarters. The seminars will advance the working knowledge for those
programming and installing PLC- or PC-based industrial control systems,
said Marc Immordino, product training manager.
The first day serves as an introduction to WAGO-I/O-System hardware followed by extensive hands-on programming with live nodes from the 750 Series WAGO-I/O-System, use of WAGO software tools for commissioning/troubleshooting and coverage of various industrial Ethernet protocols. Day Two covers IEC 61131 programming topics such as address mapping, use of multiple programming languages and CoDeSys Visualization tutorials. The final day features Web page design, examples of WAGO DLL and use of the 750-841 file system. The best part is enrollment is free; WAGO provides all course materials, meals and coordinates ground transport. Attendees are responsible for lodging and travel to and within the Milwaukee metro area. They should bring laptop computers equipped (if possible) with a 9-pin serial port and Ethernet connectivity. (As an added bonus, attendees may purchase a complete Ethernet training node—a $1300 value—for $620.) Space is limited to 12 attendees, so CLICK HERE to reserve your spot now at one of these upcoming seminars: GE’S NELA PARK COMES TO CANADA

ECAO (Electrical Contractors Association of Ontario) is taking its annual Industry Conference overseas to the beautiful Hotel Guadalmina Spa & Golf Resort in Marbella (Malaga) Spain, September 7-13. If looking at this photo isn’t enough to convince you to attend, consider this:
Besides the beach, sun, sand and tourism outings, Hotel Guadalmina is also completely surrounded by golf courses: two 18-hole and one 9-hole. And the hotel’s golf department will arrange for reservations on any golf course in the area. Be sure to take advantage of this great opportunity to really get away from it all! The theme for this year’s Electrical Apparatus Service Association (EASA) convention and exposition is “Sharpen Your Edge”. In announcing the 2008 theme, EASA chair George Stratton remarked, “I have noticed throughout my business life that many companies have prospered more than others. Some have learned that if you continuously sharpen your edge through growth into areas that support your core business, success will follow”. The
convention—which runs from June 22 to 24 at the Gaylord Texan Resort
& Convention Center in Dallas (Grapevine), Texas—once again
features a wide-ranging program addressing current business and
technical issues, including: Another important feature of the convention is the three-day exposition featuring leading industry manufacturers showing the latest in electric motors, drives and controls, generators, and other electromechanical equipment. (For information on exhibiting, e-mail Dale Shuter at dshuter@easa.com.) Flexible registration options are available, so CLICK HERE to visit EASA online and register. COMING EVENTS
