Is a driver's licence fair game?
Retailers and the Assistant Federal Privacy Commissioner compare data collection notes

Canadian retailers say they’re confused about the privacy implications of collecting customers’ personal data, particularly when regulations governing data collection can vary from province to province.
The various privacy commissioners across the country are familiar with this challenge, says Elizabeth Denham, Assistant Privacy Commissioner of Canada, who spoke as part of a panel at a recent Retail Council of Canada (RCC) conference held in Mississauga, Ont.

NGOs under fire mull security options

At one time, NGOs in the world’s hot spots were granted some degree of immunity from violence by their status as aid workers. But that’s changing, as they’re increasingly becoming the target of attacks by sectarian and terrorist groups. The Taliban is now targeting aid workers in Afghanistan; a Canadian woman was killed last month, and 19 aid workers have been killed so far in 2008.

Most Canadian businesses today will experience an IT security breach, which is why apathy is not an option. They cannot afford to become desensitized to the seemingly endless discussion of vulnerabilities and exploits.
