OLED Shipments Up
The overall OLED market for 2006 is estimated to have recorded more
than 71.25 million units for a value of above US$530 million. The OLED
market for 2006 grew 23%, far lower than earlier forecasts, and by
region, Korea saw shipments climb from 22 million units in 2005 to 28.6
million units in 2006, while Japan's shipments improved from 8.5
million units to 15.7 million units.
By contrast,
Taiwan experienced an overall negligible rise from 25 million units in
2005 to 25.3 million units in 2006, influenced by some enterprises'
withdrawal from the business sector.
It seems that the
biggest issue for the OLED industry in 2007 is 'Will it be possible
that the AM OLED market will achieve a stable entrance?' Notably, the
industry is paying huge attention to Samsung SDI and CMEL, which are
scheduled to move into mass production during the first half.
Given
the quantitative growth in the display industry, profit competition
among a great number of companies is predicted to heat up further in
2007, and market research firm Displaybank will offer an opportunity to
analyze this industry trend and forecast the future industry in New
York, at FPD Materials Conference Feb. 28.
When you
return from the conference don't forget to have a look at the March
issue of Canadian Electronics magazine for the latest in display
technologies.
