Global LCD Monitor Market Rises 3%

DisplaySearch, a member of The NPD Group and the worldwide leader in display market research and consulting, indicated in its latest Quarterly Desktop Monitor Shipment and Forecast Report that the desktop LCD monitor market rose slightly higher in Q2’06 than forecast, jumping 3.1% to 29.8M units shipped worldwide. Significant shipment growth into Latin America, up 37% Q/Q, and Greater China, up 26% Q/Q, along with growth in the market for wide desktop displays, especially in China, helped to boost shipments above the prior forecast of 29.6M units.

Despite the departure from such recognizable brands as Sony, the market for LCD monitors has never been stronger, growing to WW record levels in CY2005 and increasing 26.1% Y/Y. Most of the Q2’06 growth came from wider and larger desktop displays. While the market for LCD desktop monitors was dominated by 17" SXGA products with a 52.7% share, this was down 3% from Q1’06, losing ground to larger 19" SXGA and 19" wide displays, which enjoyed sequential growth rates of 8% and 147%, respectively. WW penetration rates for wide displays of all sizes rose from 4.5% in Q1'06 to 7.6% in Q2’06. The 19" wide market, with 54.6% of the total Q2’06 wide LCD monitor market, grew at a staggering rate and surpassed 1.2M units shipped world wide, making it the fourth most popular size/resolution shipped in the quarter.

Details from Q2’06 as well as forecasting by size and resolution for this market can be found in DisplaySearch’s Quarterly Desktop Monitor Shipment and Forecast Report, which includes shipment and forecast data for LCD monitors, CRT monitors, LCD PCs, and TFT LCD monitor modules.
