Easily Upgradeable Semiconductor Chips
Increasing demand from hospital equipment for higher precision
levels is likely to see semiconductor manufacturers competing to offer
the most innovative and flexible processors and data converters.
New analysis from Frost & Sullivan, (www.semiconductors.frost.com) World Market for Semiconductors in Hospital Equipment,
reveals that the total revenues obtained by semiconductor vendors from
hospital equipment applications in the year 2004 was nearly US$1
billion and expects to grow to US$1.57 billion dollars by the year 2008.
Hospitals are opting for sophisticated data storage and data
processing equipment for better and faster access and process times.
Since most of these high-end medical systems are one time investments
with low non-recurring costs, capability to handle upgrades to other
components in the system has become all the more crucial to increase
sales.
“The technological developments taking place in the healthcare
industry have been quite significant,” says Frost & Sullivan
research analyst Aditya Prasad. “This calls for upgraded versions of
available semiconductor products that push vendors to re-innovate their
existing product line.”

| WEB WATCH
Motion Control: Haydon Switch & Instrument Inc. has launched a newly designed Web site. Located at www.hsi-inc.com,
the site offers three general levels: home; summary; and detailed
pages. A dynamic left side navigation bar shows you where you are in
relation to other products at all times. A product selector guides the
user to the proper motor, by answering three simple questions: how far;
how fast; and load.
Chokes: EPCOS has added new model libraries for its
range of two-line data-line chokes so that all products in the current
SIMDAD series (B82789) and major components of the SMD data-line choke
series (B82790/93/99) now have their own libraries. Design engineers
may download model libraries free at www.epcos.com/tools.
File Transfer: Designed to move files that exceed
size limits imposed by ISPs, FilePorter Inc. is introducing its
Web-browser-based file transfer service. It provides development and
collaborative engineering teams with the ability to quickly and easily
share CAD drawings and other massive files securely while avoiding the
inefficiencies and security-holes inherent in traditional file sharing
software or the delays and expense of putting files on a CD for
overnight package delivery. www.fileporter.com
LED Assemblies: Marktech Optoelectronics has launched LEDassemblies.com,
which features a range of engineering and manufacturing services that
simplify LED product development and provide time and cost savings to
OEM customers. Marktech’s vertically integrated services provide
customers with a design, manufacturing, and logistics solution that
move a product from its initial design through volume production, test,
and distribution. These integrated services allow Marktech to design,
build, and ship a complete LED assembly product.
